CPL | The Dawn of a New Era: How CPL is Redefining 4×4 MEWPs and Revitalising UK Manufacturing

There are moments in the evolution of an industry when the horizon shifts completely. For utility contractors, arborists, and fleet managers across the United Kingdom, that shift is happening right now in Northamptonshire.

On Wednesday, 15th July 2026, we are opening the doors to Kinetics Studios in Corby for the CPL Product Launch 2026. This is not merely a showcase of new machinery; it is a proud celebration of British manufacturing engineering, a significant investment in our local community, and a definitive leap forward for the global access platform market.

The Story Behind the Standard: 15 Years of 4×4 Dominance

To truly understand the weight of our upcoming product launch, you have to look back to where this journey began.

In 2011, CPL’s founders, Paul Murphy, CEO, and Michela Murphy, Strategic CFO, partnered with Julian Bateman, CPL Technical Director. They identified a critical vulnerability in the field. Traditional vehicle-mounted MEWPs were unable to handle the challenging and narrow off-road conditions encountered by utility teams and infrastructure contractors.

To fill this gap in the market, CPL launched the original 4×4 A314 MEWP, mounted on the iconic Land Rover Defender. It was an instant breakthrough, rapidly adopted by utility giants and the country’s most prominent infrastructure contractors.

As the market matured, so did our engineering:

  • The Toyota Relationship: We evolved the Socage A314 platform by mounting it onto the Toyota Hilux. This created an incredibly compact, highly agile version that maintained its heavy-duty off-road capabilities while introducing enhanced creature comforts for operators working long hours in the field.
  • The Palfinger Transition (2018): To support the surging demand for our growing product line, we partnered with Palfinger, which succeeded Socage. This collaboration birthed the P130 4×4 platform, mounted on the dependable Toyota Hilux.
  • Expanding with ISUZU: With commercial demand accelerating, we secured a strategic relationship with ISUZU. This allowed us to offer alternative chassis options, satisfying distinct corporate fleet preferences while establishing CPL as the undisputed go-to player for 4×4 MEWPs in the UK.

The drive of our engineering team made the P130 the best-selling 4×4 MEWP in the country, sparking intense international interest across mainland Europe. But we knew we could push the boundaries of quality and security even further.

Introducing the New CPL 4×4 MEWP: A True Global Milestone

That brings us to 2026. This July, we are officially unveiling the third-generation evolution of our flagship line.

This brand-new 4×4 MEWP represents a monumental moment for CPL, our group partners, and our customers. The upgraded boom was designed in the UK and co-engineered with our sister company ISOLI, an Italian manufacturing leader with over 80 years of experience in lifting technology. Our parent company, the Klubb Group, well-known for its world-class aerial access solutions.

By pooling these decades of international expertise, we have designed a state-of-the-art, in-house articulated boom that gives CPL absolute design and build authority.

The most significant part of this milestone? This brand-new boom will be solely manufactured here in our UK factories. For the first time, CPL is exporting its own intellectual property globally, utilising the extensive networks of Klubb Group and Isoli to supply Europe and markets worldwide. We are no longer just transforming commercial vehicles for the domestic market; we are a global manufacturer.

Elevating Northamptonshire: Driving Local Jobs and Talent

This manufacturing expansion is an exceptional win for our customers, but it is an equally transformative opportunity for our local region. Bringing the entire boom supply chain fully in-house directly stimulates the Northamptonshire economy.

Our commitment to building the boom locally means we are actively:

  • Creating Skilled Jobs: We are expanding our production lines, creating sustainable, high-quality manufacturing, engineering, and assembly roles right here in the county.
  • Fostering Local Talent: CPL has always prioritised hiring local people. By keeping our manufacturing footprint firmly in Corby and the surrounding areas, we are providing long-term career paths, technical apprenticeships, and specialised engineering training for the next generation of British builders.
  • Strengthening the Supply Chain: Manufacturing locally means we keep investment within our community, supporting regional businesses and building a robust hub for engineering excellence in the heart of England.

This is a proud moment for our team, many of whom have spent years turning this design into a reality. We are proving that heavy industrial manufacturing can thrive, expand, and lead the global market right from the UK.
